Everyone knows the truffles of Alba, the truffles of the Langhe and the Piedmontese truffles in general. But few know that Molise is the land of the very precious ‘white and black gold’ of gastronomy.
It is an extremely rich territory of truffles, especially the upper Molise, in all types: from the very precious white truffle, more rare and with high costs, to the black truffle in its different variants.
On 12 June 2019 a black truffle weighing 1.2 kg was found. It is a ‘scorzone’, one of the most common black truffles. It has a globular shape, the outer skin is black with pyramidal warts, while the inner part is hazel with many white veins.
Molise is not new to these records: in 2014 the largest white truffle in the world was found, with a weight of 1.5 kg. A record still unbeaten.
