The origin of this procession, referred to the death of Jesus Christ, dates back to 1626. It winds through the city center streets starting at 5:00 pm.
The statue of the Sorrow Mother, that follows the one with the deceased Christ, is accompanied by women dressed in black and tied to the statue by black satin ribbons. There is also a chorus of 700 cantors entitled “Teco vorrei, Signore” lead by the master Michele De Nigris.
All the citizens are moved by this chant, thanks to its rhythmical and suffering tones and to its suggestive male and female counter melody.
