Matera, the splendid 2019 European capital of Culture, hosts the exhibition “Renaissance seen from the South. Matera, southern Italy and the Mediterranean between 1400s and 1500s“, at Palazzo Lanfranchi, home of the National Museum of medieval and modern art of Basilicata.
On display more than 200 works of art, including paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, bronzes, ceramics, astrolabes and jewelery. Unique works of art from major museums and major Italian cultural institutions but also from the great museums of Spain, France, Germany and Portugal.
Two authentic masterpieces come from Molise: the triptych of the Madonna with child between Giovanni Battista and Sant’Adamo, by Michele Greco da Valona (in photo), from the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Guglionesi; the “Polyptych of the Passion” in alabaster preserved in the National Museum of Pandone Castle in Venafro.
