Campobasso is getting ready for the “Mysteries”, the traditional procession of Campobasso which will take place next June 23, 2019. It is the most important and emotive feast of the city and undoubtedly one of the most original and peculiar processions of Italy.

What exactly are the “Mysteries” of Campobasso?
Thirteen processional structures or machines, called “ingegni”, which parade in procession through the historic center, carried by about 250 porters.
Each structure, with a certain number of figures (78 in all, of which 58 are children), represents various sacred themes.
These are complex structures, weighing between 400 and 600 kg. The structures are true masterpieces of craftsmanship: made in the mid-18th century by the sculptor Saverio Paolo Di Zinno, they are still fully functional.

This year a photographic competition “Take a picture of the Mysteries” has been launched. The deadline is July 31st. The most beautiful and original photos will be selected for the 2020 Mysteries Calendar. Read the rules
