Small countries, big screen: this is the slogan of MoliseCinema, an extraordinary film festival, as there are few in our country. On 6 August 2019 Casacalenda (Campobasso) inaugurates the 17th edition.
A brilliant and innovative intuition: to bring cinema back to small villages. This is the winning bet of MoliseCinema which, since 2003, has inaugurated an extraordinary film festival in Casacalenda, a small town in the lower Molise, as there are few in our country.
Now in its 17th edition, MoliseCinema has become a point of reference not only for Molise, which also intends to promote as a location for film and audiovisual productions, but also for the rest of Italy.
It reserves a lot of space and attention to short films and documentaries, privileging the young authors and the most innovative languages.
In addition to the competitive sections (international short films, Italian short films, Italian documentaries, first and second feature films), the festival includes numerous other events: special screenings, retrospectives, exhibitions, concerts, meetings with world-famous actors and directors.
In these years great protagonists of cinema and culture have participated in MoliseCinema: Elio Germano, which generally in that period also participates in the Cammina Molise; Nanni Moretti, Luigi Lo Cascio, Isabella Ragonese, Cristiana Capotondi, Giovanna Mezzogiorno, just to name a few.
This year one of the great protagonists of MoliseCinema 2019 will be the talented Italian actress Alba Rohrwacher, who will present her first book, published by ‘Pagine di MoliseCinema’, the Festival’s editorial series.
A gem of MoliseCinema are the posters of the various editions. This year is particularly ironic and captivating (opening image): it is a 1966 photo portraying Vittorio De Sica and Raquel Welch in a funny pose, 1966. The shot is by Paolo Di Paolo, great photographer of the twentieth century, by Molise origins.
