This summer, discover the beauties of Molise on board the most beautiful historical train in Italy. A slow journey, surrounded by untouched nature.
After the lockdown due to the pandemic, the Trans-Siberian railway of Italy restarts with all the appropriate security measures. The most beautiful historical railway in Italy, which connects Molise and Abruzzo (Carpinone – Sulmona), has long earned the nickname of ‘little Trans-Siberian’ or ‘Trans-Siberian of Italy’, due to the abundant snowfalls of the winter period.
The railway line, included in the Touring Club of Italy guide of 1910 for its extraordinary tourist and engineering value, was inaugurated on September 18, 1897. Destroyed during the Second World War, it was rebuilt and reactivated in 1960. During the following decades it suffered closures and cuts.
Nowadays, this splendid railway line has come back to life thanks to a fruitful collaboration between the association Le Rotaie and the Fondazione FS Italiane. There are tourist trips throughout the year.
Traveling aboard train car built in the 1920s and 1930s is truly an indescribable experience. It is the best way to enjoy the beauty of this little-known part of the central Apennines.
If you want to stay in Italy this summer and discover little-known places, the Trans-Siberian Railway in Italy is the trip for you.
There are day trips with fixed dates but also multi-day tours.
