The population decline of small towns, especially those in mountain and inland areas, is now a plague that affects the entire national territory, from north to south. More and more municipalities are starting initiatives to attract new residents. This is the case of some villages of Sicily, for example, such as Salemi or Gangi, which sell abandoned buildings for free or at symbolic prices.
Molise is affected by this global phenomenon. 136 municipalities, most of them with a population of less than two thousand inhabitants.
