Chestnuts and new wine: is there a better match? The events in Molise to celebrate these two autumn jewels.
Autumn has the taste of chestnuts, the smell of burning fireplaces, the sound of leaves under your feet. The feast of San Martino is approaching (“when the must becomes wine“) and feasts and festivals abound in every corner of Italy. We celebrate the harvest that has just ended and the sale of the new wine, the wine par excellence of the autumn. Young and easy to drink, the new wine goes well with Molise cheeses and cured meats but the classic combination, the one par excellence, is with roasted chestnuts.
This weekend, from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 November 2019, there are several festivals in Molise that celebrate these two jewels of autumn, chestnuts and new wine.
Not far from Campobasso, in Gildone, there is the sixth edition of “Il Giro di San Martino”, which offers tastings of typical dishes and new wine, in some wineries set up in the historic center of the town. Saturday 9 November 2019 starting at 7 pm.
In the splendid village of Guardiaregia, in the heart of the Matese, from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th November 2019, there is “Cantine di…vine”, a food and wine festival now in its ninth edition.
Finally, in the heart of upper Molise, in the marvelous village of Cerro a Volturno, on Saturday 10 November returns the festival “Castagn e Vin”. Typical dishes and popular music.
