Internationally renowned painter, draftsman and engraver, Domenico Fratianni (Montagano, 1938 – Matera, 2019) lived and worked in Campobasso. His works are an extraordinary interpretation and personal transposition of his Molise. He died on 8 July in Matera, where his anthological exhibition was underway.
Thick and vigorous brushstrokes; warm and vivid colors; characters that populate a naturalistic and realistic world but, at the same time, idyllic and ideal. In this way Fratianni has caught and painted the soul of his Molise in the course of his long artistic life: in a magnificent balance between the bucolic, almost dreamlike dimension, and realism and naturalism.
“An artist in harmony with the genius loci generated by a region, from a land, his Molise”, as stated by Rino Cardone, journalist and art critic, curator of the anthological exhibition “The voices inside, Domenico Fratianni’s painting “(Matera, 22 June – 10 July 2019). His last exhibition.
Domenico Fratianni was one of the greatest and most important interpreters of Molise art. He has exhibited his works in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad. He was a member of the Italian engravers and of the Venetian engravers; from 2000 he was Artistic Director of the Biennial of the Contemporary Italian Engraving of Campobasso.
