For some months in Corso Mazzini in Campobasso it is possible to admire an unusual building that stands out from all the others for its colors and decoration. We are talking about CondoArt, a project completed in 2020 thanks to the initiative of the entrepreneur Vittorio Morelli, with the collaboration of the architect Jacopo Di Cristofaro, the engineer Alessandro Izzo and the artist Elio Cavone.
What exactly is it about? An anonymous building dating back to the seventies has been transformed into a work of art, enjoyable not only by those who live inside it but by all the inhabitants of the city. The purpose of the building is to combine functionality with beauty by looking towards an urban redevelopment inspired by the numerous Liberty interventions carried out throughout Europe in the early twentieth century. Morelli himself claims to have been partly inspired by Barcelona of Gaudì with the wonderful Casa Batlò and Casa Milà.
The artist Elio Cavone has devised a combination of waves that decorate the facade with vivid shades of blue to soften the flat and squared shape of it. In the atrium and corridors, other works are also placed on the walls and floors, giving harmony between the interior and exterior of the building. These are decorative interventions related to the world of abstract art and action painting far from rationalist geometry, typical of Cavone’s work. In this case his painting has conquered the third dimension, invading livable spaces and penetrating into people’s daily lives.
