On December 8th and 24th the appointment with the most powerful and suggestive Christmas tradition linked to the fire is back in Molise: the ‘ndocciata in Agnone, a charming village in the upper Molise.
An ancient tradition linked to fire, which in 2011 was declared ‘Heritage of Italy for the tradition‘.
The ‘ndocciata is a parade of enormous torches of fire (in the dialect ‘ndocce’, from which the term ‘ndocciata’ derives), made in the form of a fan in fir wood, carried on the shoulders of hundreds of porters in traditional dress.
A long procession of flames that amazes, attracts, leaves you breathless. It should be seen at least once in a lifetime.
In recent years, several extraordinary editions have been organized, such as the one in 1996 in Piazza San Pietro in Rome for the 50th anniversary of the priesthood of John Paul II, or that of 2015 along the Darsena in Milan on the occasion of Milan Expo 2015.
Don’t miss the appointments!
