On 22 May a family from Molise, the Colantuono family, begins a very special journey: a herd of more than 300 cows will reach the mountain pastures of Molise on 25 May from the plains of Puglia.
It starts from San Marco in Lamis, in the province of Foggia, to reach the pastures of the “Montagnola Molisana” of Frosolone, where the herd will remain until mid-autumn.
The Colantuono family preserves a tradition that is likely to disappear; a very ancient ritual along the green roads destined to the seasonal migration of flocks and herds.

Transhumance is a candidate for inclusion in the representative list of UNESCO intangible heritage.
The nomination project, involving Italia (which is the leader), Greece and Austria, started in 2015 thanks to a local action group from Molise.
